Imagine having to leave everything you own, and everything you know, behind...
then moving to a new land with a new language and try to re-establish yourself.
This is what a refugee goes through and, right now, in our own backyards,
people from war stricken countries are trying to re-adjust to Australia.
At CityLife Community Care we are raising volunteers to serve our friends from overseas seeking refuge in our nation.
We have discovered that a pressing need is in the area of language.
CityLife Community Care is seeking to train volunteers who will be able to teach English on a one-to-one basis.
To become involved, the training is in two steps.
“Making a difference”
Recently we were able to assist a woman with her children who had to flee her home due to domestic violence. CLCC has been able to assist her with hampers and also provide a language tutor as she was keen to keep improving her English skills. Her tutor is also able to recognise when the client is in need of further assistance with food, etc. that CLCC then provides. It is your generosity as a community that enables us to make a difference.
Step 2: AMES Training
Commencing 5th May to 9th June, 6:30pm
Undertake training with
AMES (Adult Multicultural Education Services).
On completion, the Careworker Co-ordinator will allocate a client accordingly.
This training is compulsory if you want to teach English to refugees. Training is one night a week for six weeks.
How long does the training go for?
AMES runs training for six consecutive weeks, with a 2.5 hours session each week. The course is offered at night and occasionally during the day.
What does the training involve?
