Myanmar Disaster Relief
Cyclone Nargis is the deadliest cyclone in the North Indian Ocean Basin
as well as the second deadliest cyclone of all time.
The cyclone has caused 80,000 known fatalities with a further 56,000 people still missing.
It is estimated that in the Irrawaddy
delta alone 22,000 are dead and 40,695 are missing.
Most of the fatalities in the delta area were children.
Located on the tip of the country's western coast, the Irrawaddy delta of Myanmar
is a low-lying region where as many as 6 million people live.
The fertile region of the Irrawaddy Delta is the country's rice bowl. The tidal surge caused by the Cyclone which drove a wall of sea water up to 3.6 meters high, 250 kms inland.
This caused most of the fatalities and has flooded large areas of paddy fields with salt water.

China Earthquake Relief
Sichuan Province, located in southwest China, is one of the largest and most inaccessible provinces
in the nation. This province covers an area of 485,000 kilometres
(187,000 miles)
and boasts the largest population in China, with 87 million people.
The Sichuan earthquake which
measured 8.0 was felt as far away as Beijing (1,500km) & Shanghai (1,700km).
The death toll continues to rise with 67,183 now confirmed dead, (66,674 in the Sichuan province alone).
This earthquake has left 4.8 million people homeless and this number could easily rise as high as 11 million. It was the deadliest and strongest earthquake to hit China since the 1976.
Several thousand children were among those killed
in the quake as their school buildings collapsed around them.
Millions of Chinese have been displaced with little more than the clothing on their backs.
